HPE on October 7 announced four ProLiant Gen13 servers powered by AMD's sixth-generation Epyc 9006 SP7-series CPUs, code-named Venice, targeting enterprise AI inference, agentic AI, and traditional workloads such as analytics and virtualization. The flagship ProLiant DL585a Gen13 supports up to eight GPUs and two Venice processors for demanding workloads including AI inference and retrieval-augmented generation fine-tuning, with availability in March 2027 and support for GPUs from Nvidia, AMD, and Intel. The compact 1U ProLiant DL525, available November 2026, features a single Venice chip with up to 256 cores for AI inference and traditional enterprise tasks. Two rack-scale CPU systems, the liquid-cooled ProLiant XD245 and air-cooled ProLiant XD285, target large enterprises and specialist cloud providers with data-intensive AI or HPC workloads, both available in 2027.
HPE's positioning of CPU-focused servers as orchestration nodes for agentic AI workflows, handling tool calls and retrieval while GPU systems manage inference, reflects a growing view that agentic AI architectures require substantial CPU resources alongside GPU clusters, not just raw GPU capacity. The explicit targeting of neoclouds and large enterprises with high-density CPU systems signals that the enterprise AI hardware market is diversifying beyond GPU-centric configurations.
HPE's new Gen13 server generation reflecting a rebalancing of CPU and GPU resources signals an important architectural shift in enterprise AI infrastructure. New hardware generations from major OEMs set industry direction for data center buildouts.
