Temporal builds a 'durable execution' engine that keeps complex, multi-step AI workflows running reliably in production, automatically preserving application state and retrying failed steps when external services go down. The Bellevue, Wash.-based company was co-founded in 2019 by CEO Samar Abbas and CTO Maxim Fateev, veterans of Amazon, Microsoft, and Uber. Customers including OpenAI, NVIDIA, Netflix, and JPMorgan Chase use the platform to prevent agentic AI systems from crashing mid-task.

Led by Lightspeed, with co-leads Wellington Management, Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives, and Tiger Global; returning investors include Sequoia Capital, Index Ventures, and Madrona; T. Rowe Price also participated.

Why this matters

The $12.55 billion valuation more than doubles Temporal's $5 billion mark from its Series D just months earlier, setting a new benchmark for infrastructure software that sits beneath agentic AI systems rather than within the AI models themselves. With annualized revenue surpassing $250 million and growing over 200% year-over-year, the round signals that investors are placing large bets on reliability and orchestration tooling as a distinct, high-value layer in the AI stack. For data center and cloud operators, Temporal's growth reflects accelerating enterprise demand for infrastructure that can keep long-running, multi-system AI workloads intact across distributed environments.
