Why this matters

The deal adds specialized fiber, networking, and data center deployment capabilities to CBRE's U.S.-based critical infrastructure services business at a moment when AI clusters are dramatically increasing fiber density requirements per rack and per hall. CBRE projects its Critical Infrastructure Services segment, including Onnec, will generate nearly $4.5 billion in revenue by 2027, part of a broader target of nearly $7 billion across its infrastructure services businesses. The acquisition signals growing consolidation pressure as large platform companies acquire specialized technical capabilities that analysts say would take years to build organically.
